Before you get into any kind of Yoga, it is very important for you to know its meaning and the ways in which you’ll benefit by practicing it on a regular basis. If you want to learn Prana Yoga, it is important for you to know at least something about it before you make it a part of your lifestyle.

The word “Prana” stands for “life force” and, is a Sanskrit word. It also means “the vital principle.” It represents all the energy that silently exists in the Universe. Prana is the energy present in each and every little thing that you see around you. These “little things” include both, living and non-living. According to the Hindu Literature, it is said that Prana originates from the Sun and connects all the elements in the Universe.

Prana Yoga

What is prana energy?

It is the energy that swiftly flows through the body of an individual. When the energy flows through the different Chakras in your body, there are a lot of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual experiences that you go through. With the help of Yoga and meditation, your Chakras can be expanded. When you expand your Chakras, you notice that the flow of Prana increases in your body. When you have a lot of Prana energy running in and around your body, your health improves. This energy makes you a stronger and wiser person.

What is prana yoga?

It is a form of Yoga in which you practice several “breathing exercises.” It is known as the “breathing Yoga” as you are taught to control the pattern of your breaths in this style. There is not just one way that you learn in this form of Yoga; there are many. The full name for Prana Yoga is Pranayama Yoga. While the word “Prana” stands for “life force” (as mentioned earlier), the word “Yama” stands for “control.” Thus, Pranayama Yoga means learning to control the life force or the energy by controlling the rhythm of your breathing patterns.

Four stages of pranayama yoga:

The first stage: This is the “Arambha” stage; it means “the beginning.” You begin by learning to control your breath and not be too fussy about it. You have to let it happen naturally to you. The fussier you get, the harder it gets for you to learn to control your breathing pattern.

The second stage: This is the “Ghata” stage. It is a little advanced than the first stage. In this stage, your inner processes begin to control the breath for your body. It is as good as effortlessly controlling your breaths.

The third stage: This is the “Parichay” stage; it means “introduction.” In this stage, you feel enlightened. You are closer to your spiritual or Higher self. The deeper you go inside of you, the better and lighter you feel.

The fourth stage: In this stage, you are open to interpret your experiences and feelings. What you go through is not something that can be expressed in words. You unlock the doors beyond the potential of the human body. This is not the stage that everybody achieves just like that. In fact, most of the trainers avoid taking their students to this level, because this is not something that can be achieved overnight. Rigorous practice is needed to attain this stage beyond the understanding of the human mind.
