Virabhadrasana(Warrior Pose)

Warrior I Steps:

1. Begin in a mountain Pose with feet 2-3 inches apart.

2. Extend the arms vertical to the floor and parallel to each other.

3. Turn the left foot to the right and right foot outwards.

4. Rotate the torso to the right side.

5. Firmly press the left heel into the ground and bend the right knee over the right ankle.

6. Either keep the head in a forward direction or slightly tilt back to look upwards.

7. Stay in this pose for 30 seconds.

Modifications:

The Beginner yoga practitioners can keep the back heel on a block for lightening the lower back.

Follow Up Poses: The Virabhadrasana (Warrior Pose I) is used as a beginning position for Warrior III posture. It is a good standing pose preparing the yoga performers for backbends.

Warrior II Steps:

1. Stand straight on a yoga mat.

2. Widen the feet 2-3 inches apart.

3. Angle the left foot to 90-degree and right foot to 45 -degree. Bend the left knee such that the shin is perpendicular to the floor.

4. Raise the arms to the sides at shoulder-height.

5. Look ahead and hold this pose for 20 seconds.

Warrior III Pose Steps:

1. Perform uttanasana (standing forward fold pose).

2. With an exhalation, step the left foot back and come into a high lunge position.

3. Bend the right knee approximately at 90-degree angle.

4. Stretch the arms forward and parallel to the floor.

5. Lift the back leg and hold this pose for 30 seconds.
